DVD Review: Monk, The Obsessive Compulsive Collection (Seasons 1-4)Synopsis:
He's ingenious, he's phobic, he's obsessive compulsive. Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner "Tony Shalhoub is a riot" (TV Guide) in Monk, the show that critics are praising as "fresh, exciting and utterly original." (Chicago Tribune). Monk's hilarious, offbeat antics have made him unfit for duty but he's back as a police consultant to help out on their most baffling cases. Tony Shalhoub returns in his award-winning role in the smash-hit series Monk. The Obsessive Compulsive Collection features all 61 episodes from the first four seasons of the hilarious "whodunit" series on 16 discs.

Editor's Note:
The critically acclaimed, Emmy and Golden Globe winning MONK finally gave talented character actor Tony Shalhoub a chance to shine. Shalhoub's performance as the mentally unstable title character contains just the right mix of pathos and perfect comic timing, earning him an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the role. Adrian Monk (Shalhoub) is San Francisco's most brilliant detective, but is unable to serve on the police force because of his crippling neuroses and obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, he continues his investigations independently, often solving cases before the actual police are able to do so, and always seeking clues to the unsolved murder of his wife. The combination of comedy, mystery, and a distinctively eccentric character has led many to dub MONK the successor to COLUMBO. This collection includes every episode from seasons one through four of the series.

Critic Quotes and Reviews:

  • USA Today 9 of 10 Writer Andy Breckman displays a welcome willingness to throw us into the middle of the plot, trusting us to find our way back to the beginning, along with a good ear for funny cop dialogue. Even better, he's provided a great showcase for Shalhoub (Wings, Galaxy Quest, Big Night), a talented, intensely honest actor who is at his best when he's being quietly put-upon. - Robert Bianco
  • Entertain Your Brain! 10 of 10 From the opening scene (where "Monk" is investigating a girl's murder and wonders if he left his oven on) to the resolution of the premiere's storyline, "Monk" is pure delight. It manages to be funny without being mean spirited, and it has enough ongoing drama to make you want to tune in every week...If you have a desire to see a great show that would fit perfectly on a network during the fall season, watch "Monk." - Shawn McKenzie
  • "One of the more clever television creations of the new millennium..." Britt Gillette, The DVD Report
  • "...some laugh out loud moments, and there are even moments of tenderness and poignancy..." Ryan Keefer, DVD Verdict
  • "...the best detective show to come along in decades..." The New York Times
